Any tips on writing for a magazine?

I was just wondering whether anyone had any advice on writing for a magazine? I have a 2:1 degree in English from a good university, I have worked in online media for the last two years and am now about to start working as a communications manager (internet, PR, newsletters etc). I write (voluntarily) for a walking magazine already and am thinking about doing my masters in Magazine Journalism in the next few years. Ideally, I’d like to walk for an outdoors mag (walking, climbing, mountain biking etc). Am I on the right tracks? Is there anything else I should be doing? Any other suggestions would be great!
